  • Board Development 101 provides an introduction to building and strengthening effective nonprofit boards serving Community‑Based Organizations (CBOs) in the CVI space. This training focuses on the purpose of nonprofit boards, core roles and responsibilities, and how to recruit, engage, and support board members who can meaningfully contribute to organizational success. Participants will gain practical guidance on establishing healthy board–staff relationships, building diverse and mission‑aligned boards, and understanding how strong governance supports accountability, sustainability, and community trust.

  • - The role of a nonprofit board and why it matters

    - Core board responsibilities and fiduciary duties

    - Differences between governance and day‑to‑day management

    - Building healthy, respectful board–staff partnerships

    - Strategies for recruiting diverse and effective board members

    - What skills, lived experience, and perspectives to seek in board members

    - Board onboarding, engagement, and ongoing development

    - The board’s role in organizational sustainability and fundraising

  • - Executive Directors / CEOs

    - Senior leadership staff

    - Current board members

    - Program leaders working closely with the board

    - Staff supporting governance, fundraising, or organizational operations
