Introducing the GASC Capacity Building Network

The Government Alliance for Safe Communities (GASC), in partnership with UCAN, is proud to announce the launch of the GASC Capacity Building Network (“The Network”), a new initiative designed to strengthen and support Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) across the Chicago region.

The Network provides FREE tailored training, technical assistance, and data-driven services to organizations engaged in Community Violence Intervention (CVI) and violence prevention work.

By working with a diverse network of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), participating organizations will receive customized support that helps maximize their impact, build sustainability, and grow their capacity to serve communities.

Applications are now open for the first cohort of CBOs, as well as for SMEs, to join The Network. Applications are due by October 10, 2025.

Why Join The Network?

  • Access specialized training and workshops designed for CVI and violence prevention organizations.

  • Receive hands-on technical assistance to strengthen operations and improve sustainability.

  • Work with experienced Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who tailor support to your organization’s needs.

  • Join a collaborative community of peers and partners dedicated to advancing safe and thriving communities.

Eligibility Requirements

Organizations interested in joining The Network must be actively engaged in Community Violence Intervention (CVI) and/or violence prevention efforts. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Street Outreach and Intervention - Engaging individuals at highest risk of violence, mediating conflicts, preventing retaliation, and facilitating service connections.

  • Case Management - Providing individualized assessments, ongoing support, and connections to services such as employment, housing, and behavioral health.

  • Victim Services - Supporting victims and families impacted by violence through crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and referrals.

  • Focus on Highest-Risk - Prioritizing those most likely to experience or perpetrate violence in the near term.

Priority will be given to CVI organizations currently receiving GASC funding. CVI organizations that have received GASC funding within the past 12 months are also eligible to participate.
